Losing GPS in the IFR environment in uncontrolled airspace is no joke, especially in places where mountainous terrain is a factor like in NM. We're interested in learning more about the accident. Flying the Florida Panhandle isn't too bad when under IFR, but VFR is a bitch, since you're trying to avoid light GA & military traffic. That said, it's easy to communicate with the banner towing guys so you don't get mixed up with them.
