why is tor still running?
tor was started by the us naval research lab for dissidents outside the usa
"i'm using tor, no one can catch me"
😂
no, they just don't give a shit about you, you're small beans
do you think they don't control enough exit nodes to figure out who is saying what?
do you think they don't have enough visibility into bittorrent to know who is doing what?
roll any service you want mike
if you get big enough, the govt finds a way

@benroyce@mastodon.social @mike805@noc.social @ohir@social.vivaldi.net @rootschange@kolektiva.social @scathach@stereophonic.space Tor is still effective combined with other privacy tools such as OTR messaging with forward secrecy. The trouble is most users still don't realise that traffic between the exit node and open internet isn't encrypted by default, so they make stupid mistakes. The point of Tor is that everyone is Spartacus; it doesn't make you invisible! That's a severe limitation of the tech requiring careful planning to mitigate depending on the specific use case.
