@charette@mstdn.ca Yep - tax is the answer. Thomas Piketty has analysed what actually happened when most western economies had very high marginal tax rates (eg. 90%). He calls it 'predistributuon' - obviously, people stopped asking for astronomical salaries, or dividends. What's the point ? Instead, companies reinvested profit - and this is one of the reasons economic growth, wage growth, training programmes, etc were all higher in the period between the war and the 1980s, when marginal tax was highest - and, far from the 'trickle down' expectations of the neoliberals, all these declined once tax was cut.

@charette@mstdn.ca Walmart made a science of hiring part-time workers so no benefits and teaching store managers to research local clinics so employees knew at least where to go, since they couldn't afford anything else.

@charette@mstdn.ca Having worked in retail for both Rite Aid and Walgreens for 20 years, the reason these companies went down was that the CEO kept thinking they knew how to do the job without working. The results speak for themselves. TAX THE RICH.

@charette@mstdn.ca +9001% Espechally since said payment isn't even remotely linked to any #risk taken. #CxO's should be paid less than #Firefighters, #Surgeons and #Paramedics - period!

@charette@mstdn.ca There should be a rule: the lowest pay per hour times 12 - What the management gets in one month with all benefits MUST be the minimum pay for every worker per year (or less according to part time etc).

@charette@mstdn.ca The CEO of Krogers got a 20 MILLION DOLLAR bonus in addition to earning 1 MILLION PLUS PER MONTH to sit on his ass. On the 4th of July a box of wine 🍷 at Kroger's was $12.99. Today, the 4th of August that same wine is $21.00!!! Are we winning yet?
