@Ardubal@mastodon.xyz you’ll need to provide some backup for that statement. 1) how many years to design, commission and build, a new nuclear plant versus battery installation? Nuclear: 10-20yrs at best. Renewable/Battery: under 10, often under 5 because most of the components are pre built and only need a suitable spot on the ground. 2) how many litres of water per day is used to cool a 1GW battery and solar installation per year versus nuclear? How much is lost and how much is pumped through, warmed, and returned to the source. Nuclear: generally 1000-2000 of litres per MWh produced. (Source: Stanford http://large.stanford.edu/courses/2017/ph241/styles2/) A 6GW Nuclear plant produces about 45,000MWh a year (Bruce Power, Ontario Canada) So that’s 45-90 Million litres a year. Solar: none. Wind: none. Battery: depending on design and location, anywhere from none to something less than nuclear.
