I mean, yeah, but you can’t trust self interested parties to just limit themselves so they don’t cause problems. He’ll of course claim that he really believed that term of 3 years 11 months is legally different from 4 years. And he was probably banking on the court being scared to upend a race where the ballots were already out. System needs to be able to handle bad actors.
