@issyl0@ruby.social I think they’re “just” a database primary key & a check code to verify digits typed into phone IVR systems, with the silly UX persisting into web interfaces Glasgow seem to have decommissioned theirs a while ago (and have an office number), but https://www.westsuffolk.gov.uk/council/elections/electoral-register/annual-update-electoral-register.cfm still have an 0800 automated line
