@tomjennings@tldr.nettime.org MMS is a carrier controlled service so it’s controlled by their network and plan. MMS and RCS both depend on servers operated by the phone company so there’s a ton of room for weird delays or errors. I’ve even had errors like that after the recipient successfully received the message.
