Confirming nominations is such theater… Senator: Do you support “horrible thing X” ? Nominee: Of course I do. I'll get it done on day 1. Senator: Oh, then I can't back you at all.. Nominee: I misspoke.. I'm totally against “horrible thing X” Senator: Excellent! Confirmed! And, of course, the Nominee does "horrible thing X” first thing on day 1. And congress has no power to do anything about it because the system is fucked. So this is all about plausible deniability for congress. We've seen it over and over again. And we never learn or make it so that there are consequences for promising something and ignoring that promise the moment you're confirmed. #politics #fuckpolitics
