A sign of how broken public transport is in the UK. If I wanted to take a bus/coach from Bristol to Reading (which are ~90 miles apart on the M4) I could either go via Heathrow, or be dropped off at a park and ride miles outside Reading town centre. That journey would take 90 minutes and cost £12-£16. I could take a train direct into Reading city centre, which would take just over an hour and cost £37-94 (depending on off-peak vs peak). Or I could drive the 90 miles in personal comfort at a time of my choosing currently for free as my EV has been charged from my solar panels, or for a non-EV at a cost of ~£12 (based on petrol at 169p per litre and fuel consumption of 50mpg). The bus is comparable cost-wise and time-wise, until you factor in onward travel from the random park and ride you get dropped at (plus any costs of getting to the departure point). Oh, and there are only 3 departures a day.
