dabke music is difficult to livecode for a bunch of reasons. arabic music is microtonal for one, so you need something in your stack that can break out of the simplistic western tuning that is often hardcoded. the sound is also very particular. many of the samples used in the synthesizers have been passed around for decades and people share effects and patches in person and online. recreating the sound from scratch is possible but well beyond me. i really just want to live code "the real thing". the closest piece of software that can do that is called Music Studio from Sofeh Sunrise (https://www.sofeh.com/). it is windows software that can parse the original Korg and Yamaha synthesizer patch formats. it has android and ios companion apps that get used extensively in the levant turkey and balkans, enough so that there is a community of people on youtube exchanging tutorials and sample sets for this modern stack. this is all after my time but i wonder if these apps fill the niche of people performing this kind of music who cannot afford a full physical synthesizer... i had messed with Music Studio as a potential way to extract sample sets and turn them into renoise instruments with mixed results. being able to use it *directlt* as a VST is an absolute game changer. it does a lot of the kind of mixing, reverb, delay and other effects that are important parts of the genre. this flings the doors wide open! i am shaking with excitement!
