@kett@app.wafrn.net Let’s not mince words: we didn’t let it happen, corpos used every ounce of their power to seize more power until they were capable of this. There was a long and frankly pretty traceable chain of events that led to this, including the FBI purposefully dismantling effective social justice and labor organizing starting with the civil rights movement, Reagan gutting antitrust laws and enforcement, and the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision. (That’s the one that let corporations make unlimited political donations via “corporate personhood”.) Then and only then were corporations able to buy enough influence to make this happen, without running afoul of antitrust laws, political donation and anti-corruption laws, or without getting immediately squashed by effective organizing.
