(44) Nysa consists of 3 ‘lobes’, joined by two sections that encircle the asteroid, or ‘necks’.
All previous identifications of asteroids with a neck have been interpreted as ‘bilobates’ (two lobes).
Why this odd shape? Possible explanations:
