@davidsuculum I wonder if there's a bit of a blind spot where physics geniuses like Carroll may not realize that phi sci and metaphysical questions may need to be approached quite a bit differently than physics questions. His stand on "brute facts" seems to me to reflect a blind spot like that; and similarly Krauss in A Universe from Nothing, where he Krauss ends up relying on a multiverse+anthropic principle that doesn't really answer the question.
