@jimsalter@fosstodon.org Doing things the hard way is really good when learning is (as it always should be!) your goal, and when you don't have some kind of artificial Sword of Damocles arbitrating your ability to make a decent living.
I will always choose learning over not, but sometimes I will also choose being able to draw a paycheck versus not, because feeding, clothing and housing my family and I are in fact more important than my desire for life long learning.
One of my hopes for retirement is changing that equation.

@feoh@oldbytes.space no argument with any of this--though I will note that currently, the "easy way" IS a sword of Damocles attempting to arbitrate *away* my ability to make a decent living.
