'Israeli' court freezes transfer of crocodiles to Ben Gvir prison moat after animal rights petition

2026-08-02 18:07 UTC

The Jerusalem District Court has issued a temporary injunction preventing the transfer of crocodiles to Ketziot Prison as part of a campaign led by ‘Israeli’ National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to introduce the reptiles into security areas. The court’s decision halts the move until the state responds to a petition submitted by “Let the Animals Live,” an ‘Israeli’ animal rights organization that challenged the plan. A final ruling on the matter will be issued after the state presents its response. Preparations for a crocodile enclosure, including the digging of a moat, began last month after Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman issued a ministerial decision to reclassify Nile crocodiles as a “tended wild animal,” allowing them to be kept in security facilities.
