📸 Yesterday, we deployed our sediment profiling camera at the HAUSGARTEN Observatory. It goes into the sediment and takes a photo of the top 21 cm as a profile. Jennifer Dannheim from @awi #DeepSea Group explains that this enables us, for example, to assess the penetration depth of oxygen and 🪱 bioturbation, i.e. burrowing activities of animals inhabiting the sediments, much like earthworms in soil. #PS155 #Arctic @helmholtz @Meereisportal
