So I screamed & ran away, before got these photos of the Giant Wood Wasp (Uracerus gigas) that landed next to me on my massive fir tree stump that I am slowly cutting up from its removal for solar panels (had core rot so needed felling). This is larger than an Asian hornet. It actually isn't a wasp at all, it's a harmless (to humans) mimic and actually a sawfly. What looks like a massive stinger is actually an ovipositor that has saw like teeth used to bore into the wood #insect #entomology
