Completely jinxed myself by writing and posting that! I backslid totally on Tusday afternoon and a little on Wednesday evening too. Nothing extreme, just a li’l extra TV and YouTube beyond what I had planned. Some sort of primal “validate me please” part of my brain was looking for offline or anti-smartphone choir-preachy stuff, and that might’ve been fine if it had only checked in with me first. That’s got to be a sure sign of how poisonous this stuff is that even the terms of this peace treaty (that lets me do anything online for as long as I want at the small price of actually thinking about it first) apparently wasn’t enough for the monkey on my back. But that’s how it is when parts of me want to and parts of me don’t. Those parts are scared of each other and don’t trust each other yet. Pretty ironic that the screen-seeking side of me broke the treaty with the screen-hating side of me… only to try to look for screen-hating stuff online! But that’s how the Little Monster operates. It’s tricksy and looks for insecurities to wedge into and turn over. I need to understand that the war is over. Both sides need to understand that. If I long for screen, even if (especially if) I’m already on screen, just take a one minute break and reach for the paper lists first. I’m not giving up and I’m back at it today and, the plan is, for the rest of my life. Same deal, same rules, just starting over. I just don’t wanna overrepresent myself as someone who has figured all this stuff out. I thought I had. 🤦🏻♀️ One love.︎♥︎

@Sandra@idiomdrottning.org I've been applying a similar rule lately, but due to being time-constrained. So, whenever I notice laptop time goes nowhere, I close the lid and do something else. Only focused tasks allowed.
