What's interesting to me about this piece is large sections of it sound like a leftist analysis of current economics, but Kurtz is writing from a *very* right wing perspective; so he highlights the same problems a lefty might care about, but generally reaches opposite conclusions about etiology and fixes.
For example, he cites dysfunctional public schools as a loss of "social capital". A leftist might agree, and conclude the reason schools got worse is systematic conservative defunding… (1/3)

…and loss of New Deal safety nets. Whereas Kurtz concludes, in a series of escalating dogwhistles before finally just saying it, the problem is racial integration of schools. Kurtz's alarming underlying worldview makes this post, if anything, the more interesting. It maybe portends a future where centrists/neoliberals/"Democrats" cling ever-harder to an insistence everything is fine, while conservatives and leftists point to the same ballooning problems while proposing opposite solutions.
