Nobody wants to bookmark an empty commit, right? Even if it kept the default behavior, it could WARN me "you probably want to do this", similar to how other commands can have warnings about what you probably want.

@soulcutter@ruby.social perhaps if you're doing the workflow where you describe your commit before you start editing it makes sense?
