this was me. im mostly the inattentive type and went through all these struggles. my parents always thought my struggles were my fault, so when i faltered their response was to push me harder. i could only really relax alone in my room. i remember at one point i just couldnt take it for one more second. i had to go to swim practice but i had literally nothing left in the tank so i barricaded myself in my room and refused to come out until it was too late to go. a couple times they tried to force the door open but couldn’t. i dont remember if their behavior really changed after that, but i think it was one of the first times i felt i had the power to say no to them and they couldnt do anything about it. i hope more little girls get the help i never had.

That sounds awful, I feel this story in my heart. I don’t know how many things I dropped out of because it was too much. Thankfully better, more informed diagnostic criteria is helping more girls get help earlier.
