@gsuberland@chaos.social this way you don't need any address configuration or discovery or anything. the addressing is an emergent property of the physical topology. (3, 2) just means move 3 hops east and 2 north. Obviously it won't be simple cartesian coordinates so you'd need to invent a slightly more complex scheme for the hex grid but this seems an easily solvable problem

    @gsuberland@chaos.social I have a strong personal bias against buses that are multi-drop at the physical layer because of all the SI headaches that causes. I much prefer to design the system architecture so all physical layer links are point to point and implement multiple access at upper layers with active switches/muxes/buffers/repeaters of some sort
