@akoaroha@mastodon.social It really was. We arrived to the farmers’ garden hearing lots of tūī song. We thought, wow, it sounds like there must be 8 to 10 tūī just in this one garden. When we finished in the early afternoon, we’d caught and banded 15 tūī, caught one more already banded bird, saw another already banded bird, and when we were leaving there were at least five more still unbanded birds visiting the sugar water feeders. The place was humming! This end of Banks Peninsula is called the Wild Side as it’s long been the focus of forest regeneration and possum and predatory mammal control. It’s a great example of how effective this hard work can be.
