The problem with America’s legal system
To practice law:
—4 year degree, take LSAT, 3 year JD, pass BAR, buy malpractice insurance, total cost ~$300K
To enforce the law:
—Here’s paid 13-week training & a gun
To write the law:
—0 qualifications needed, a billionaire can buy your seat
Vote only for candidates funded by people—not billionaires

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social This is the same country where a physical object can be accused of a crime, and can stupidly be made to defend itself in court. This is the same country that lost a lawsuit against 29 tonnes of shark fins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Approximately_64,695_Pounds_of_Shark_Fins

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social there’s a single figure for the cost of practicing law regardless of institution?

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social Exactly, funded by the people, not by lobbyists and big money!
