Not especially relevant to my current job but... one of the things that bugs me most about my career? The way i've repeatedly earned the reputation in a company for being able to hunt down, puzzle out, and fix the 'weird problems'. Which is great! I AM good at it. it's an important skill to have an an asset to any tech company that want to stick around. The problem is that it's a skill that means you often work in isolation, and no one understands what it is you do or how you do it. So when the review cycle comes around the rest of the team have nothing to say about you, and your manager's feedback is a shrug and 'good work, I guess?". It's critical work, that often is a stand in for the company's whole infosec strategy. but it doesn't tick of the investor friendly KPI's.
