Even after all those years, my heart still skips a beat when my eyes stumble upon a “next step” phrase. It takes be back, very briefly, to a time of relative innocence and naïve hope of technological progress fueling human emancipation. Those hopelessly naïve hopes and ideals were shattered, eviscerated by powerful perverse mechanisms. We should have known better, have understood that the enlightenment machine we seeked to build could and would be taken over and subverted into the torment nexus. Regrets.
