btw, reCAPTCHA is no longer free (*) to use beyond 10k requests a month, so any large company is actually paying for the privilege of helping you be tracked. (*) free as in money

I write all of this as I work on my employers captcha setup which barely does anything to stop the flood of spam and general crap we deal with. I ran a couple of google searches for reCAPTCHA info and captcha solvers had higher rank in the results than googles own service. So that’s cool

@cass@muffin.industries I'm glad Google charges to use Recaptcha, I hope their prices go up and thresholds go down. This will help get websites to move off ReCaptcha to another captcha provider. Last time I ever saw recaptcha was when Signal used to require it to set up. Thankfully, Signal dumped Recaptca either over this financial requirement or over privacy concerns and now uses another captcha provider. Note that I have never scanned a QR code as I do not trust them. I never see Recaptcha as I have all of Google blocked, so no website can load it here. The negative is I cannot tell WHY a site isn't loading, only that it does not. That's OK, I can usually get the same content somewhere else anyway. I would be perfectly fine with a plugin that on detecting Recaptcha automatically closes the tab.
