@max @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Schools in Italy could provide educational and recreational activities throughout the summer instead of simply closing for three months. Instead, teachers get a three-month break while parents are forced to spend a fortune on summer camps and activities because they still have to work. This school calendar is completely outdated and no longer reflects the reality of modern families.

My sister works as a "scuola materna" teacher, they stop at end of June and they start organizing the new year's activities at beginning of September. So they only stop two months. Moreover, in one of those two months they must be available in case the school calls them for some reason so you can't consider that month as 100% holidays as they can't move from their city. And these two months free of work are not a favor the government makes to teachers, this is what is established in their work contract. Then, I think that many of them would be happy to work in summer too, it's just a problem of what they get in turn. Italians teachers are paid much less than their European colleagues, maybe if you pay them a better salary you can ask them something more. Or you'd like them to do more working hours for the same salary? Finally, teachers are not baby sitters, they're not there to take care of children while their parents are working. They're job is teaching, they've studied for that, not to be kids/boys entertainers. I can perfectly understand the need for parents to have someone who takes care of their children while schools are closed (I'm a parent too) but why should we oblige teachers to do that?
