@tante@tldr.nettime.org My theory of Mark Carney (a data center booster for Canada) is that he has economist brain and fears missing out on the capex spending party. This validates that world leaders really *are* that stupid. Ignoring the short-sightedness of the environmental impacts, and that the data centers aren't profitable and have no future, here's the bigger problem: THE MONEY ISN'T SPENT LOCALLY. There is a bit of construction work, but the majority is poured into e-waste manufacturing overseas.
