@Peter_Link@expressional.social @Miro_Collas@masto.ai of course Cuba did respond rapidly and properly. They don't get as many tourists as Brazil, France and others; and the people don't have as much freedom to move across their country.
Now, the protests: sometimes you can't cover up stuff, but you can alter the numbers. I wasn't there, but here it's the same: they kill hundreds, report tens. They imprison tens, report 3 or 4. 🤷🏻♀️
The repression? Yeah you can't even imagine how old the gas cans are, nor picture how selective the SEBIN is (I still got videos of the houses marked with an X on the door in Caracas after the fraud 2 years ago. That's just what the Nazis used to do in Germany).
And of course, you don't know what we've gone thru because the media here always lie to the people abroad. The news are not for us in here, but for an international audience.
I have a serious, genuine question: if I was a communist and saw the level of corruption, violence and censorship a so-called "socialist" regime has: would criticising that make me less of a leftist? No. I should stand with the working class!
Why can't we be like Norway? And have clean energy, free libraries, free speech? They just censor everything. What's so wrong about freedom?
Ah right, you guys only care about countering Trump and his fascist PDF friends.

Let's clarify something here - I'm not talking at all about Venezuela. I'm against Trump's kidnapping of Maduro and the takeover of oil and control. But I'm not going to defend Maduro against charges of repression.
But I don't think Cuba is the same story.
Sure, I wouldn't mind a Norway situation in the US or #Cuba. It would be better than Trump or the Democrats.
Cuba CANNOT be like Norway because the US has been choking it for 65 years. Even if the management of the economy was ideal, I don't think prosperity would be possible with all of the #sanctions, which increase by the day. And that unrelenting pressure has a big effect on the political atmosphere. It makes it much harder to raise criticisms when Uncle Sam is supporting "dissidents" and other counter-revolutionaries.
