To empty your IMAP folders, you can use e-mail clients such as Thunderbird or Mutt that allow you to save e-mails to local folders on your computer's hard drive. After the move, it may be necessary to expunge/purge messages marked as deleted from your IMAP folders in order to delete them permanently. In Thunderbird, this is achieved by "compacting" each folder.

@switchingsoftware@fedifreu.de and make sure to do a backup for Thunderbird and the mail folder. And get a good EU based mail provider where you have enough IMAP space to move your mail. Preferably without the local step.
