No, that’s old rechargables like NiCad and NiMH. They make rechargeable lithium ones these days that have an integrated BCU and output 1.5v until they’re dead. Many you can charge via USB-C or micro, so you don’t even need a special charger.

OP said he bought a bunch a long time ago, most likely not NiMH. I’m in the same boat, they just work in all devices unfortunately.
