@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange It happens in every STEM field. The only way STEM is different from the performing arts, is that performing artists went in knowing it was going to be hell every day and then penniless death.

@Linza@kamu.social @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Even more than that, many STEM graduates were practically promised wealth and job security for life because “tech is the future”. I know I was, as I was growing up a 90s “computer whiz”, and that cultural mindset continued into the 2000s and 2010s for the youth (even as the rest of us were learning that the truth was very, very different from the fantasy we were sold).
