Edmonton! It is almost August! Here's a few things happening over the long weekend & first week to keep you busy until I can compile the rest of the calendar:

Festivals:
Aug 1-3 (Sat-Mon): Edmonton Heritage Festival returns to Hawrelak Park, with all the tasty food & colourful performances that local international cultural heritage groups can offer. Free admission, reasonably priced food, various vendors.
Aug 1 (Sat): Swahili Fest celebration of East African culture at ArtSphere gallery (97 St N of Jasper). 4-8pm family activities, 9-2am concerts & party, $17.
Aug 6-9 (Thu-Sun): Edmonton Folk Music Festival in Gallagher Park. Only Thursday tix remain ($117/adult; main stage only, headlined by Corb Lund), although there is an official ticket exchange service.

Aug 7-9 (Fri-Sun): Cariwest in Churchill Square with food, music, market, and kids activities, plus the parade through downtown Saturday morning. Aug 7-9: Animethon at the downtown convention center celebrates Japanese-style anime movies & TV with screenings, featured-guest panels, contests & showcases of anime music videos, cosplay, dance, plastic mecha-building, and an Asian pop music concert series. $90/weekend pass. Aug 8: Downtown Belonging Series in O-day'min Park will be featuring Afro-Caribbean music & culture. 12-5pm, free.
