Looking at how roomy the drive is inside, it really makes me wonder why this thing was ever full height. It feels like it wasn't a huge engineering leap to make a half height drive.
Just stop putting enough room in the thing to park a Winnebago and you're mostly there.

Maybe the main limitation was the size of the drive motor. It's a big 'un.
