They felt like what made Bejeweled successful was polished graphics, but not any of the little touches or magic gem soul of the game

I think the road here was paved when knowing how to use design software became made equivalent to "being a designer", but using genAI trained on a mountain of stolen design/artwork has certainly taken it even further. The YouTube/social media psyops of trying to push the panic button in everyone's brain has encouraged those trying to make a living off of building an audience/ad revenue to do whatever it takes to please the algorithm. And that's often making panicky graphics and facial expressions. Crying "wolf!" all the time has predictable results of people not paying attn anymore. To actually stand out in design now, you need to *not* be doing panicky polished stuff.
