Much more efficient to just dump a cloud of iron filings in a reciprocal orbit. (at 15.6km/s closing velocity, each grain has a rifle-bullet-adjacent amount of kinetic energy.)

(And I suspect quite a few approaches to generate an EMP result in plenty of those shards.) Looking at the world, sealing ourselves in via Kessler Syndrome might be a kindness to the rest of the universe. (I'm sorry, I don't want to sound depressed, but I made the mistake of opening the news recently.)
