@letterus@kirche.social The energy usage is a relevant, but insufficient argument in a broader political debate. Cars and planes have a huge environmental impact, yet they are allowed and people use them (but we try to transit to more efficient and renewables). So, the argument has to be a bit smarter and more general. For example, if you have a carbon tax, then you would need to pay the real prize for LLM usage. That could perhaps work.

    @hfalcke@mastodon.social I absolutely disagree. To even compare electrical energy used for computing with kinetic energy shows how much the debate went into wrong directions. I think one needs to compare how much that industry wanted to reduce CO2 emissions only few years ago compared to what they use and plan now. That difference should be taxed strictly.
