I grew up in the 80s where calculators did (9) then (sqrt)
But later the best generation had calculators which tried to emulate written notation.
But that didn't work for me as the uncertainty of interpretation was much greater.

@rzeta0@mathstodon.xyz similar to me then. I used the old-fashioned ones in primary school, then had the new-fangled ones with fraction entry and brackets in high school. I still remember my mum's old *scientific* calculator that I used as a kid; even though it had all trig functions, it did not understand order of operations or anything like that. But unlike you I liked the new ones :)
