If only 9 volts were that price, I'd stock up for the smoke detectors for the next 5 years.
For everything else, I bought a bunch of rechargeable AA and AAAs a while back and those have been great. Haven't used a D battery in years and a C battery for decades. I assumed they stopped making C's.

They make rechargeable 9vs. Since it costs me virtually nothing, I change my smoke detector batteries every 6 months. That way I can do it at my own convenience, at like 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, instead of 3AM on a Wednesday morning when one starts to chirp.

I moved into a house last year that didn't have enough smoke detectors for my taste, and the two new ones I bought used AA batteries.

Unfortunately, some things can’t handle the lower voltage AA so must use alkaline.
