@brianb@fosstodon.org I'd ask if the bans are more for protecting instructional hours rather than dealing with addiction? I'm in a state (OR) that had phones banned during school by executive order from the governor, but as a way to reduce disruption during the school day. Addiction was never mentioned in the EO.

@camless@m.ai6yr.org I need to read the law, but my guess its more about instructional time and to just set the expectation across the board rather than piecemeal. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Right now, we have a general building policy (away, but can be carried) with teacher discretion. Setting a single will help remove the context switching kids do (I'll work in class A b/c of the teacher, but not B because it's looser) if we can all be consistent.
