@Elizafox@social.treehouse.systems it's complicated. we find it hard to assess such things in-the-moment, it's really only years later that we get to see them clearly, by talking to people who were part of the group in question. meanwhile, of course, it's important to take people's identities at face value and respect what they tell us.
certainly there have been situations in decades past where proponents of misogyny and hatred attempted to lure gendery people into identities that were framed in objectifying ways

@Elizafox@social.treehouse.systems and certainly the pitch in those things has often been, hey, you don't need to think about politics if you frame yourself in this way, you don't need to be the scary thing that conservatives will hate it's a particularly appealing pitch to people whose pre-existing beliefs are already conservative. of course, it doesn't work, it leads to just as much hate, all the same consequences, because of course it does
