@atpfm@mastodon.social The eggplant emoji was in the Japanese carrier SoftBank and KDDI emoji sets when it was added by Unicode and Apple. In those two early renderings, it was skinny as it represented the variety of eggplant common in Japan. The “phallic” shape is therefore correct, much in the way that SWEET POTATO 🍠 should represent a Japanese variety and not the flavorless garnet yams common to American use.
