Anime lead me to believe that I'd make friends by defeating challengers in battle and forging lasting bonds built on mutual respect, and the realities of a regular life have left me disappointed.

I have been reminded that this still exists at high levels of competitive play of sports, games, and other hobbies, so I guess this is just a skill issue and I need to git gud.
