Because your country (assuming you live in the United States of America): a) Cracks down on torrent users too often for them to risk not using a VPN, which means no torrents from US IPs. b) Has very expensive hosting prices (hosting a site is more expensive in the US than in other country), making hosting small sites not worth it (More generally) c) Runs under capitalism, which favors an oligarchy, which means centralization of power. d) Has a winner takes all FPTP election system and yada yada yada the US ends up with two rightwing parties that favor the oligarchy
