One of the conclusions I’ve come to from my years of software freelancing is that humans hate tradeoffs.
I don’t just mean that we hate deciding between options when none is clearly the best. I mean that people hate admitting that tradeoffs •exist•. We desperately want there to be a best option, a correct answer, a clear choice to satisfying our egocentric need to believe we are objectively In The Right.

When someone says “There are some downsides to the choice you made,” even if that’s followed “but you are probably still making the best choice,” as often as not people experience it not as the frustrating reality of life but as an ego threat.
