mermaid mask is fascinating as a release right now because we're in a big golden age of deduction/detective games, which are all imo very heavily influenced by obra dinn/golden idol/sam barlow's games
but that series has been going for a LONG while now and remained rather steady!

like, it's one of the best detective games i've played in ages, but on it's own course; more in line with hybrid detective visual novel/adventure games on the DS then your modern golden idol-likes. it makes it stand out all the more how good it is, and makes comparisons more fascinating
