This was inspired by a toot I saw recently, but also by MANY posts I've seen over the years. If you wish to speak about disability and cycling, disability and urbanism, and you're not disabled in ways that affect your mobility, PLEASE engage diversely disabled people (who've not got a ton of internalized ableism, who've got experience cycling, taking public transit, driving, etc) instead of speaking in our stead. We're here. We're as hireable as other folks who speak at cycling/urbanism events. And we have lived experience of disability and cycling/transit/urbanism issues. Abled car-centric people use disabled people as a rhetorical cudgel, but so do abled cyclists/urbanists. We've got our own expertise and our own things to say. https://youtu.be/3fV-3d-J7pw?si=C0Vrjj5DluaFfp2N&t=112 #BikeTooter #Disability #Urbanism #CarCentrism #Cycling
