@clew@ecoevo.social No books, but I've dealt with some of those issues in the past. No easy answer on the 1st- you just have to get to know each species you are collecting- seeds must be ripe before collecting or they won't be viable and/or won't store. Some species you have to watch /check constantly or be really lucky (Geranium species were super hard for me...lol).

@clew@ecoevo.social To catch: I've seen people use the little fabric (often kind of translucent) drawstring gift bags you get at dollar stores tied over drying flower heads I think pieces of nylon stockings and similar as well. If they seedheads were bigger or you could bend a few into one spot you might use brown paper lunch bags also (these are all assuming not damaging the stems, still live so they can keep maturing).
