@jablkoziemne@101010.pl @soatok@furry.engineer gay/bi men were heavily restricted on blood donation in the U.S. since the early 80s, due to the AIDS crisis. It was frequently worded as “men who have had sex with another man even once since 1977”. There were a number of cases of people infected with HIV via transfusion, so the policy wasn’t completely irrational in 1985. By 2005, it was just lingering homophobia. Eventually it was relaxed to “in the past 12 months”. I think the 2023 guidelines are 3 months now?

  • @jablkoziemne@101010.pl until 2023, gay men were prohibited from donating blood if they had sex with other men in the past year. since then, the guidelines are: within the past three months… have had sexual contact with a new partner and have had anal sex. A “new” sexual partner is defined as having sex with someone for the first time OR having had sex with someone in a relationship that ended in the past, and having sex again with that person in the last 3 monthshave had sexual contact with more than one partner and have had anal sex per https://www.redcrossblood.org/faq.html#eligibility-stds @soatok@furry.engineer

@jablkoziemne@101010.pl @soatok@furry.engineer Gay men are not allowed to donate unless they've not had sex with a man for an entire year.
